Traditional African Food Cook-Off

The City of Edinburg – Cultural Arts Division is proud to announce Juneteenth Jubilee on June 17, 2023. A day dedicated to African American Culture on the Juneteenth Celebration Anniversary. This event will take place from 4:00-11:00 pm at the Edinburg Municipal Auditorium and Promenade Park Amphitheater – 201 W McIntyre St. 415, Edinburg in honor of Juneteenth. Juneteenth is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the end of slavery in the United States.

We are looking to highlight a minimum of 4 black cultures such as but NOT limited to – Nigerian, Ghanaian, Gambian, and Caribbean through a food cook-off competition.

COOK-OFF EXPECTATIONS

  • Free taste samples for 300 guests (anticipated). 

  • Sample sizes should be 2 oz souffle cup or comparable.

PARTICIPANTS WILL BE PROVIDED WITH

  • 1 tent

  • 1 table

  • 2 chairs

  • 1 source for electrical power.

 The competitor will be obligated to get a no-cost temporary food establishment permit. 

WINNERS

In return, the winner will get bragging rights, and a trophy.

If interested, please complete the food vendor application and note it is for the Traditional African Food Cook Off Competition 2023 when you list your food item. Please disregard the fee it is waived for the Cook Off entry and place a “0” in the Tax ID field. 

For BUSINESSES that are interested in selling items for a profit, we will also provide Food Truck opportunities. If interested please complete the food vendor application. This is separate from the cook-off.
