STXFF 2016 Workshop Series: Beginning a Career in Visual Effects and Motion Graphics
STXFF has begun its quarterly series of free film industry workshops aimed at helping members of the community gain the knowledge and resources needed to advance a career in the entertainment industry. The first workshop in this series, Beginning a Career in Visual Effects and Motion Graphics, will take place January 23rd, 2016 at the Dustin Michael Sekula Memorial Library.
Visual effects is a quickly evolving, and high paying profession. Even so, it is possible to begin a career in this field with only a computer and access to the Internet.
This workshop will outline tips and techniques to:
- access free and low cost software and training;
- learn skills commonly used in the entertainment industry;
- find and fill out necessary permits and paperwork;
- get your first paying client; and
- prepare for a career with a major post production company.
Attendees will also get a chance to hear about the exciting UT3D program and the Immersive Media class from the University of Texas at Austin. Get a brief introduction to virtual reality headsets, 3D Compositing and the free software that let’s you start creating your very own video games for all platforms.
The workshop will last from 11am to 1pm on Saturday January 23rd with a short break for lunch. Attendees are welcome to bring a brown bag lunch. Sandwiches will also be available for sale at the Library Cafe. The workshop is free and open to the public but seats are limited.
