The City of Edinburg announces the return of “Buscando a Frida: an homage to Frida Kahlo” by Lucía Macías to FridaFest on July 21 at the Edinburg Municipal Auditorium. The performance – unique to FridaFest and the Rio Grande Valley – takes the viewer through a theatrical experience of dance, music, art, song, and poetry into the life of Frida Kahlo.
Actresses, Erika E. Garza, Wendy Lara, and singer Jenny Cantu will interpret Frida in different monologues accompanied by local artists.
The theatrical performance will also feature the artwork of Jose G. Cano, an integral participant of this performance through his Frida Replicas.
Macías is the director of Lucia Macias Theater Company, and a founding member of Red de Talentos de Mexicanos en el Exterior, McAllen-RGV Chapter. She is also founded the Buscando a Frida Festival in Rio Bravo, Tamaulipas. Macías is a strong supporter and advocate of the theatrical arts. She has taught theater and self-expression for the past six years and continues to promote drama and live theater performances.
The Edinburg Municipal Auditorium is located at 415 W. University Dr. behind City Hall. For more information visit www.edinburgarts.com or call the Dustin Michael Sekula Memorial Library at (956) 383-6246.
